SUMMARY:Citizens for Lexington Conservation Annual Meeting
DESCRIPTION:CLC is pleased to announce that Dr. Jeff Howry\, landscape archeologist and Lexington historian will be our 2026 Annual Meeting speaker. Join Jeff in a historical exploration of Willard’s Woods\, one of Lexington’s most popular conservation properties. The area presents many examples of how our New England landscape was shaped by nature and occupied by humans. This virtual tour will show attendees many of the features of the 100 acres that tell stories of what has happened there over the past 12\,000 years. Participants will particularly come to appreciate the historic landscape and what it tells us about our colonial forebears’ lives. \nDr. Howry is a landscape archaeologist whose research covers both New England and southwest Asia. He combines social history with remote sensing imagery to disclose features that reveal the use of the land and how it presents patterns of human occupation. \nIn addition to our speaker\, we will hold a VERY brief Annual Meeting. \nThe meeting is open to the public. Please join us. \nLight refreshments will be served! \n\n\n\n\n\n  \n

DESCRIPTION:April 24-27 is City Nature Challenge \, an international event\, motivating people around the world to find and document wildlife in their own cities. Join one or both walks\, offered in collaboration with Lexington Living Landscapes. \nThe walks are an opportunity to learn to use iNaturalist to observe and share biodiversity information in Lexington’s conservation land and to participate in this year’s iNaturalist is an online social network of people who care about biodiversity and want to contribute to knowledge and learn from each other. So far\, people in Lexington have made over 30\,000 observations comprising over 2\,100 species of plants\, birds\, bugs\, fungi\, etc. in iNaturalist! \nPlease download the iNaturalist app to your phone (iPhone or Android) and create an account before you arrive. Come even if you don’t intend to make official observations yourself; help us find plants and animals to record\, and see how the process works. \nOnline iNaturalist Tutorial for the City Nature Challenge\nThursday\, April 23\, 7:00 pm\nJoin us as Lexington resident and iNaturalist expert Barbara Katzenberg walks us through how to use iNaturalist. DESCRIPTION:By popular demand\, Jeff Howry\, Ph.D.\, a Lexington historian and archaeologist will lead another walk exploring Willard’s Woods. The area presents many examples of how our New England landscape was shaped by nature and occupied by humans. The tour will show participants many of the features of the 100 acres that tell stories of what has happened in the past 12\,000 years. Not seen before imagery of the historic landscape will be presented.\nPosters and artifacts will supplement the narrative as we explore the various terrains and historic areas within the conservation area. Participants will particularly come to appreciate the historic landscape and what it tells us about our colonial forbearers’ lives. \nWear long pants with closure straps\, hiking footgear and weather-proof clothing.
