SUMMARY:Willard’s Woods: A Brief Journey Through 12\,000 years of a cultural landscape Saturday October 17\, 10:30 AM
DESCRIPTION:Join Dr. Jeff Howry\, a Lexington historian and archaeologist\, in exploring Willard’s Woods. The area presents many examples of how our New England landscape was shaped by nature and occupied by humans. The tour will show participants many of the features of the 100 acres that tell stories of what has happened in the past 12\,000 years. Posters and artifacts will supplement the narrative as we explore the various terrains and historic areas within the conservation area\, including images not seen before. Participants will particularly come to appreciate the historic landscape and what it tells us about our colonial forbearers’ lives. \nWear long pants with closure straps\, hiking footgear and weather-proof clothing. \nMeet in the main parking lot on North Street. \nRegistration required\, limited to 35 participants.  Register here.\nGuide: Dr. Jeff Howry jeff@lexlyceum.org

SUMMARY:iNaturalist Observation Walk
DESCRIPTION:Sunday\, October 18\, 11:00 AM \nThis walk is an opportunity to learn to use iNaturalist to observe and share biodiversity information in Lexington’s conservation land. iNaturalist is an online social network of people who care about biodiversity and want to contribute to knowledge and learn from each other. Data captured in iNaturalist has been used for many research projects across the globe. So far\, people in Lexington have made over 30\,000 observations comprising over 3360 species of plants\, birds\, bugs\, fungi etc in iNaturalist. The walk will take about 1.5 hours. \nPlease download the iNaturalist app to your phone (iPhone or Android) and create an account before you arrive.  \nMeet on Garfield Street near Garfield park\, parking available along the road. \nHeavy rain cancels. SUMMARY:West Farm\, Sutherland Woods\, and Liberty Heights
DESCRIPTION:Sunday\, October 25\, 2-3:30pm\nEnjoy three of Lexington’s Conservation Areas on one loop walk\, following much of ACROSS Route K. We will start at West Farm on Oak Street and traverse the overlook of Wilson Farm and Pleasant Street in the distance. Then along a few streets to enter Sutherland Woods from Peacock Farm Road\, a few more streets\, then through the woods of Liberty Heights above Massachusetts Avenue\, returning to our start point. Total walking distance is 2.0 miles. Start time is 2 pm sharp. \nMeet at the trailhead across from 30 Oak Street. SUMMARY:Across Lexington Route H Walk
DESCRIPTION:Sunday\, November 1\, 1pm\nJoin this walk to discover Across Lexington Route H. This 3.8 mile loop goes through residential streets and several conservation areas including Idylwilde\, the Takeda property Conservation Easement along Shade Street and Hayden woods. The route goes on a very long boardwalk through some wetlands. It also passes by a community garden. Remains of stone walls used to mark boundaries can also be seen. The route is shared by runners and bicyclers and is not suitable for baby carriages. The walk will start and end at the front parking lot of Bridge School\, 55 Middleby road. Parking available under the canopy and along the pavement.
